Project Overview The Dearborn Congress Kennedy Block 37 train control system and traction power system upgrades and improvements project consists of the design, fabrication and installation of train control and communication systems for the CTA Blue Line from Forest Park Terminal to Jefferson Park on the O’Hare/Kennedy Line; modifications to the traction power distribution system and negative return bonding in the Dearborn and State Subways for the Airport Express Station; upgrading the traction power system in the Dearborn and State Subways; and architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, HVAC, electrical and furnishings for all facilities within the limits of the project.

The project will replace approximately 20-miles of the existing train control systems on the Blue Line.  They will be replaced by a modern bi-directional cab signal system, which will be compatible with the signal systems of the rest of the rail lines.  Additionally, new interlockings and train control systems to connect the State and Dearborn Subways will be implemented after new tunnels and a station are constructed under separate contracts.
