The Clark Street Tube Rehabilitation Project restored and upgraded two 1.2-mile-long subway tunnels damaged by Superstorm Sandy’s saltwater flooding. As part of the MTA’s resiliency program, the project replaced critical communications, signal, and power infrastructure, rehabilitated pump rooms, installed a new emergency pumping system, and waterproofed and relocated vulnerable equipment to reduce future flood risks. Weekend service reroutes on the 2 and 3 lines enabled crews to complete these essential repairs while maintaining weekday operations and improving the tunnel’s long-term reliability and resilience.
