PACO Group, Inc., as a subconsultant to the joint venture known as “THE Partnership,” (Parsons Brinckerhoff, AECOM and STV) provided preliminary and final engineering support for the design of the TransHudson Express (THE) Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) Tunnel, a $7.2 billion project that was to double New Jersey Transit and Amtrak rail capacity between New Jersey and New York by 2018.
THE ARC Tunnel project featured a new two-cavern, eight-track passenger station 120 feet under 34th Street in Manhattan between 6th and 8th Avenues, adjacent and connecting to the existing Pennsylvania Station; two new bored tunnels under the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey, and bored and sequential excavation tunnels in Manhattan; and track expansion, connections and train storage facilities in the Meadowlands located in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The project was canceled in October 2010.
