The MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Penn Station Concourse and
Platform improvements Project focuses on modernizing and enhancing
passenger circulation, accessibility, and overall functionality at one of the
busiest rail hubs in the United States. The project includes the
refurbishment and replacement of platform stairs, along with platform
level improvements designed to improve safety, passenger flow, and
operational efficiency within Penn Station. As a critical gateway for LIRR
commuters traveling between Long Island and Manhattan, these
upgrades support the station’s ability to accommodate high passenger
volumes while improving reliability and the overall commuter experience.


In addition to the platform and stair improvements, the LIRR Concourse
Project incorporates significant ADA accessibility upgrades, including the
construction of a new elevator entrance and the replacement of four
existing elevators to improve access between concourse and platform
levels. The project also enhances the station environment through
widened corridors, higher ceilings, improved lighting and airflow, and
upgraded retail areas, creating a more open, comfortable, and efficient
transit space for passengers using Penn Station.
