The Chambers Street Station Complex Electronic Security System Upgrade Project focused on modernizing critical infrastructure within one of the system’s oldest transit hubs. The scope included the replacement and enhancement of key systems such as CCTV, security, exhaust, and HVAC, improving both safety and operational efficiency. In addition to system upgrades, the project incorporated broader station improvements, including platform renovations to reduce the gap between trains and platform edges, as well as general aesthetic enhancements like repainting.
The project also prioritized accessibility and customer experience by bringing the station into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This included the installation of new elevators connecting street level to the mezzanine, along with ramps providing access to the J and Z train platforms. These upgrades significantly improved accessibility, safety, and overall functionality for daily commuters while extending the life of this historic station.
