The project was a regional transit planning study commissioned by the South Florida Regional Transportation Organization to identify both short-term and long-term transit improvements critical to the economic competitiveness and future mobility of South Florida. The study focused on developing a short-term implementation plan through 2010 and a long-term plan for 2011 and beyond, targeting regionally significant transit corridor projects across Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. The effort included a comprehensive evaluation of all transit modes in the three-county region, examining their integration with other transportation systems and assessing the ability of existing services to meet current and projected demand. Findings from technical analyses and extensive public involvement activities—including public open houses, Technical Advisory Committee meetings, newsletters, and online outreach—were used to inform decisionmaking and support development of the Locally Preferred Alternative, providing planners with a clear understanding of system strengths, weaknesses, and future investment priorities.
